12 So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. 13 Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. 14 And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. Colossians 3:12-14 MSG
Because we are God’s we live a new life of His deep love for us, our love for Him, His love for others, teaching us to love each other. Because He first loved us we want to wear His favorite outfits for us to please Him and to be becoming to others as we grow nearer Him.
These outfits are compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength and discipline. Jesus had compassion on and showed kindness to prostitutes, ladies with illnesses, men who were lame. It didn’t matter if they were right or wrong what mattered is that they were hurting. God gives grace to the humble and I am in need of grace. I also don’t know how to be humble without His help. Quiet strength has no fear but is gentle and not forceful, just helpful. Discipline is a difficult word. Most of us don’t care for it. But it’s helpful when we study God’s word and when we take care of our chores at home.
If we have no oompassion or quiet strength or discipline in us put on love. Every day we need to wear love. We can do something for someone in need. Or just smile at someone. We can find whatever we can even in our weakness to change the day of someone else.
