Peter replied, “Master, to whom would we go? You have the words of real life, eternal life. We’ve already committed ourselves, confident that you are the Holy One of God. John 6:68-69 MSG
Jesus had said some tough things to the larger crowd of followers that confused them (and me). Then He explained to His smaller group of disciples. He had spoken earthly things but they were meant by Him to be spiritual.
The crowd, most of it, quit following Him at that point. He was no longer popular because He had said something too heavy, too deep and full of meaning not only that but it was unappealing. So the crowd dispersed.
It must have broken Jesus’ heart because He asked His twelve a yearning question … Will you all leave Me too? Peter answered in a beautiful, precious way … To Whom else would we go? There’s no one like You Jesus. We hunger for Your words of life. They give our lives meaning. Not only that we’re committed to you because You are the Messiah. To go anywhere else would be to abandon our God and You, the One He chose.
Lord, teach me to hear You no matter what You say. Teach me to listen with my heart. Make things simple for me like You did for Your disciples. I have no where else to go but You.
