What’s in Your Heart?

And He said to them, “Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written:
‘THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS,
BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME. (Mark 7:6 NASB)

This kind of is like me…I do all the talking  but the part of me that would listen and hear, my heart,  is closed or held by me at arms distance from the Lord. Talking to the Lord in sincerity with a troubled or joyful heart is a very good thing. We just have to be careful that we read His word listening with our whole heart so that the part of God’s word that applies to us is heard by us and fills our listening heart.

The men in this verse really had a whole other issue. They were actors. They pretended to honor God with their mouth but there was never a change in their heart that made them gracious, tender or warmhearted. They honored God with their lips so that man, not God would honor them. We all do this a little but this was their whole empty life.

There’s hope. Some of those actors turned to Jesus by the end of Acts in the New Testament. Jesus can do a beautiful work in any man or woman if we open our heart and let Him speak
