And in that vicinity there were shepherds living [out under the open sky] in the field, watching [in shifts] over their flock by night. (Luke 2:8 AMP)
They lived out under the open sky…by night. Even when it wasn’t Christmas.
He determines and counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by their names. (Psalm 147:4 AMP)
While God is watching each star these shepherds are taking turns watching each sheep. And then when their shift is over they watch each star for the beauty, to meditate, to listen to the Lord.
What does God call stars for names? Bright. Shining. Warmth. There’s only so many of those words in the earthly language; wonder about the heavenly one. Maybe it’s also words like Grace. Faithful. Generous. Loving. Joy. If there are names like that do they shine their name down on the world?
Lord, if You name Your stars honorable names, we could use them shining down on this Earth. It’s a needy place right now. Love us Lord. Be more than enough. Be our blessed Savior. And may your stars shine Your light that causes darkness to tremble.
