The Garden

Fiction

Her sunflowers are looking a little piqued this morning. Need some water from Above. The tomato vines have some blooms; that’s a good sign. So do the okra. Lettuce, again, needs some water, as do the black eyes.

His grandson will come over this morning to help him pull weeds before the sun gets high. He loves the youthful company. His grandson is soothing to his heart. He’s a good boy of 18 years. Should be calling him a young man but it’s tough when you held him for the first time an hour after he took his first breath.

Well, no pulling weeds today! The water from Above came! Just what these plants needed. He’ll call his grandson and maybe he can give the kid a break and Grandma,Grandpa and Grandson can go out to lunch. Yep, it was arranged. He now had a couple of hours to sit and soak up his own water from Above he was always hungering for while his wife washed the dishes and puttered around the house. He loves her. She has her Quiet Time at night. She’s more perky later in the day.

He sat down and he read how “God’s thoughts are higher than ours.” God loved him and has him here for a purpose. Life needs wisdom we don’t have sometimes and all we can do is tend the garden and hold His hand.

The three of them went out and had a barbecue lunch. He had been wanting some pulled pork for a while. His grandson is smart and healthy and took the chicken. Grandma likes her sliced pork sandwich and french fries. But the important item on the agenda was the conversation. Grandpa told his grandkid what he had learned in God’s word that day. “It may not seem to apply now but one day you’ll need wisdom beyond you, Son. And on that day remember these words…tend the garden and hold His hand. Just do your daily routine, loving your wife and kids, working until you get God’s thoughts from His word. We love you kid. You’re our heart.” “Grandpa, I love you too. I’ll always be here because I know you love me. I need to hear your wisdom.”

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not My ways.” [This is] the Lord’s declaration. “For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For just as rain and snow fall from heaven, and do not return there without saturating the earth, and making it germinate and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, so My word that comes from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but accomplish what I please, and will prosper in what I sent it [to do].” Isaiah 55:8-11 HCSB
