And while He was in Bethany, [a guest] in the house of Simon the leper, as He was reclining [at table], a woman came with an alabaster jar of ointment (perfume) of pure nard, very costly and precious; and she broke the jar and poured [the perfume] over His head. (Mark 14:3 AMP)
This life she lived had been costly to her. it left her empty and aching and hungry for tenderness. She wanted to run away, desperate for love. So she stayed in town and ran away in her heart. But when she opens her eyes Jesus is there. He tenderly protects her and He pours the Balm of Gilead in her soul. People traveled from far away to get the healing balm in the town of Gilead. Jesus soothes her, listens to her heart’s tears, and loves her in spite of her sinful reaction to pain she didn’t deserve. When He does that she longs to love Him and repay Him. So, she pours out perfume and worship. What a beautiful response. Only because of the Beautiful, Loving Savior.
