A man’s steps are established by the Lord,
and He takes pleasure in his way.
Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed,
because the Lord holds his hand. (Psalm 37:5, 6, 23, 24 HCSB)
Our steps are established by Him. That says to me that he plans and puts down stable, cement garden stones in a path for us to walk on with our own personalities and the gifts and talents He’s given us. No one else can walk where we were meant to be. So He watches over us carefully and watches with a smile how we react to the path before us. Our quirks and grace we show both give Him pleasure. We’re created to make Him happy and we aren’t happy until we’re walking His path.
The next verse I learned as “Though he falls he will not be hurled headlong, for The Lord is the one who holds his hand.” We fall and stumble on our garden path. It feels sometimes as if we’ll lose it … Our sanity, our family, our salvation, our finances… Even if we lose one of these things The Lord grips our hand tightly. He’s the one who carefully created each detail of us, He’s the one who loved us through every detail of our difficult life, he’s the one who gave Himself completely for us. He won’t let go and that means He’s attached to us as we go through the days we’re unsure of.
