It’s the child he loves that he disciplines; the child he embraces, he also corrects. God is educating you; that’s why you must never drop out….He’s treating you as dear children. …This trouble you’re in isn’t punishment; it’s training, At the time, discipline isn’t much fun. It always feels like it’s going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off handsomely, for it’s the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God. (Excerpts from Hebrews 12:4-11 MSG)
“If we’re disciplined by our Savior it’s because of love. The child He embraces, He also corrects.” There’s a word in the original language talked about by Beth Moore that is only one letter away from wrestle and that word is embrace. So sometimes He embraces us a little tight maybe to teach us something and to wrestle us to keep us from pulling away from the principle we need to learn. All the while He’s wrestling us He’s embracing His sweet child … That’s us.
I was crying out to the Lord one night for something I wanted. I could clearly hear Him say “Yes, but wait.” I wanted it now! I was hurting for it. “Hadn’t I waited long enough?” All the while, as we dialogued though I felt so secure and so deeply loved. It was an amazing experience of wrestling in His embrace.
